(hennemusic) Ozzy Osbourne rocks with Pearl Jam guitarist Mike McCready on the third and final episode of a video miniseries about the making of his new album, “Patient Number 9.”

McCready joined a long list of essential rock guitarists – including Jeff Beck, Tony Iommi, Eric Clapton, and Zakk Wylde – as one of the guests on the album, with the Pearl Jam rocker appearing on the track, “Immortal.”

“[Producer] Andrew [Watt] had called me and asked me if I wanted to play a lead on the record,” explains McCready. “‘I’d love to’. And I was nervous about it, too, because there’s all these other guitar players [on the album] that are the s**t. I’m thinking I want to play the s**t out of this, and so what is on there is me feeling it. Other than Ozzy singing the melody to the beginning of the song on ‘Immortal’, and I said ‘Well, of course, I’ll do that'”.

“Mike killed it on that solo,” says Watt. “Pretty heavy.”

“I feel a new energy with Ozzy and I feel that from the ‘Immortal’ song,” adds McCready, “not because of my playing or anything…just because of the intensity of his singing on that song.”

The episode also features interviews with Ozzy, Watt, Iommi, Wylde, Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo and Guns N’ Roses bassist Duff McKagan; stream the finale

New Rock Opera Staring Into Nothing? Coming

(SRO) “Staring Into Nothing?” the collaborative songwriting partnership between Kurt Barabas and Steve Rogers, has evolved into a live stage production featuring all-new music and a wide-ranging cast of actors and musicians.

Set to debut Friday, October 7 at the El Portal Theatre in the NoHo area of Los Angeles, the full-scale production will launch with three shows: Friday, October 7 and Saturday, October 8 at 8:00 PM and Sunday, October 9 at 2:00 PM. Tickets are available via the theatre’s website at $55. Listen to a sample of the music here.

The show is being directed by Broadway performer, director and choreographer Jeffrey Polk, with acclaimed musician Denny Fongheiser serving as producer, musical director and musician (drums, and percussion). Beyond Rogers and Barabas, the cast features stage and television actors, classically trained musicians and award-winning performers. The full cast (alphabetically) includes Jonathan Bluth, Marqell Edward Clayton, Adam Gimenez, Brentley Gore, Janaya Jones, Amanda Kruger, Ginny Luke, Derek Nakamoto, Will Riddle, Janet Robin, Krystle Simmons and Scott Spraags.

After releasing two albums under the name of “Staring Into Nothing?” Rogers and Barabas created a new musical/rock opera (with the same name) that explores the impact of mass media, social media and the digital information age on the quality of our lives. It asks and attempts to answer the age-old philosopher’s question: “What Is Good And What Is Not?” His project was always written as a musical narrative. Upon completion of the songs, the only question was should it be delivered as a film or a theatrical performance. After seeing “Hamilton,” Steve decided he definitely wanted to perform these songs with additional dialog and multiple actors live on stage and the rock opera was born.

The idea of writing a musical/rock opera that explores the philosophical concept of “Quality” began with one of Steve’s favorite books: Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance by Robert Pirsig. It is subtitled “An Inquiry Into Values,” and explores the relationship between people, technology and quality. Written in 1974, it could not have contemplated the technology we live with today, but the principles are the same.

Steve wanted to explore these same relationships in the modern world and mentions that during the writing process, “other books started to influence and enhance my thinking about ‘What is Good and What is Not’ in a world of cell phones, tablets, email and the 24-hour news cycle; particularly Brave New World by Aldous Huxley and Technopoly by Neil Postman.

Yungblud to perform at NFL Halftime Show in London

Yungblud is set to perform at the NFL Halftime Show at London’s Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this weekend.

Taking to social media earlier today (Friday September 30), Yungblud revealed he would be appearing this Sunday October 2 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium – the first purpose-built NFL stadium outside of the US – where the Minnesota Vikings will play against New Orleans Saints.

“It’s gunna be mad,” Yungblud wrote. “Tell yer mates.”

Yungblud’s announcement comes off the back of the release of his self-titled third album earlier this month.

Featuring the singles ‘Don’t Feel Like Feeling Sad Today’, ‘Tissues’, ‘Funeral’ and the Willow-assisted ‘Memories’, a four-star review from NME‘s Ali Shutler said the album was “driven by love, sincerity and vulnerability, as Dom Harrison kills his critics with kindness”.

Meanwhile in the US, next year’s Superbowl – the championship game of the NFL – will see Rhianna headline its halftime show.

Confirmed earlier this week, Rihanna was locked in to appear after Taylor Swift reportedly turned down the opportunity.

When she takes to the stage at on February 12, 2023, at the State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, it will mark the first time Rihanna has given a live performance since her show at the 2018 Grammys. Her last album was in 2016, when Rihanna dropped her eighth studio effort ‘Anti’.
